Description
A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is required by a pilot receiving remuneration for flying an aircraft. The Bruce Harwig Flying School offers a number of difference Commercial Pilot Licence courses to suite the individual student.

Our ISO 9001 Quality Accreditation allows us to individually tailor our course to suite the requirements of the student and/or their employer.

Our courses range from our basic 3 module course to a full 7 module course. These modules are:

* Note that these totals are an average. All aeronautical experience stipulated in CAR's should be viewed as minimum requirements only and accumulation of the minimum experience only will not necessarily guarantee attainment of the required standard. In the majority of cases students will require hours in excess of the minimum.

Medical Certificate

A Commercial Pilot must hold a Class 1 Medical Certificate. Click here for a current list of DAMEs. If you have any questions about Medical Certificates or the location of a DAME, please contact us.

Minimum Requirements (Module 3 - CPL)

To gain a Commercial Pilot Licence. A person must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Holds or is qualified to hold, a radiotelephone operator licence
  • Has been awarded a pass in commercial pilot (aeroplane) theory examination.
  • Has been awarded a pass in a commercial pilot (aeroplane) flight test
  • Meets the standards set out in the aeroplane day syllabus that are relevant to the commercial pilot licence CAR 5.104

Minimum Aeronautical Experience (Module 3 - CPL)

For students undertaking the approved integrated Commercial Pilot licence, the minimum aeronautical requirements is at least 150 hours total flight time as pilot including:

  • At least 70 hours of flight time as pilot in command
  • At least 20 hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command
  • 10 hours of instrument flying
Time Commitment for Course Completion (Module 3 - CPL)

For full time study, students need to allow a minimum of 17 weeks for Commercial Pilot Licence. However, we recommend that 26 weeks is allowed to complete the course.

Diamond DA20-C1 : new generation trainers from $141 per hour

Piper PA28-181 Archer II : Navigation trainer from $165 per hour

Cessna U206F commercial trainer : from $280 per hour

Flight Instructors from $59 per hour

The following represents the approximate flight training and associated costs to for the Commercial Pilot Licence course. These cost include the flying cost associated with the PPL component (modules 1 and 2). The course costs are based on a single engine aircraft including fuel, insurances and the flight time requirement to achieve the required test standard, utilising the appropriate aircraft and Instructors. They are a representative guide.

Fixed Price Training

The Bruce Hartwig Flying School is able to offer fixed-price training on an individual interview basis. However, it should be noted that pay-as-you-go flying is generally less expensive and more flexible to the needs on the individual student. Fixed price for a full Commercial Pilot licence starts from $52,000.
